Developments (includes interwoven emotional architecture)(150 - 200)

Unexpectedly, one of Ruth’s associates, Gideon, helps Jude to escape. He meets her in the desert revealing that her parents may still be alive and that a fragment of ‘Interchange’ has survived.

Interchange was a simulated environment used to manage the construction of an interstellar coloniser ship. The project team was effectively immortal, digital copies of real people existing inside Interchange. Project Lead, Hal, lives on in the surviving fragment, and was behind Jude’s father’s efforts to improve life on Mars. Driven by the need to find her parents, and pursue her vision, Jude decides to go to Hal for answers.

Meeting Hal in Interchange, Jude learns that she must take the cube there to complete what her Father started - triggering the coloniser in orbit to drop enough equipment to re-make the fallen Martian colony. It is also revealed that the destination of the coloniser was chosen because a non-human communication was received from there.

Meanwhile, Earth forces, who have returned to Mars to harvest it's abandoned technology send analyst Jesus Santiago after Jude and the cube. Earth need to maintain the status quo, which Hal's plan will disrupt. Ruth is secretly working for him in exchange for Earth support.
